New graphics card time!

Hi, I need your advice on this. My current graphics card is the nvidia 8800ultra, just the one. I've noticed that some games today struggle to play nicely, I have to either drop it down to medium or low/medium. So its time for a new one.

I have decided to choose the following:

1. nvidia gtx 580 or
2. nvidia gtx 570

The gtx 580 costs aprox. 415pound and gtx 570 approx. 300pound. There is a considerate amount of difference in price but only a small increase in stats on the 580 between the 570.

I got the 8800ultra when it first came out, so I usually tend to go for the top stuff. I found a receipt of it the other day which cost me 600 euro back in the day. Now its worth around 50 quid. But like anything you buy, it devalues over time. I don't want to regret buying the 580 if its not worth it just yet.

So who can give me some feedback?

I am open for options on ATI as they are much cheaper for the power you get.

Corsair 8500C5D 8GB (4x2GB) Memory
Onboard Sound
BQT 850watt Modular PSU

I am happy to keep the pc for the time being.

I have been checking online on reviews and such. I've just remember that there is also the factory overclocked gtx 570 that I could also consider.

i'm usually a amd person, but their current line-up sucks compared to nvidia, as for the graphics card, the most recommended one is the 570, it will play everything at ultra+ for the 116 pounds you save you can buy an other graphics card in 2-3 years with equal performance to the 580. also the 570 should last easily for 2-3 years

way i figure it, graphics cards will usually last about 3-4 years. By that time the card you have can be bought on the cheap and crossfired or SLIededed

Well, I've decided to go for the EVGA GeForce GTX 570 SC. I got a new sound card as well while I was checking for prices. My onboard Optical out doesn't work any more so I am getting the Asus Xonar D2X. Hope I made a good choice on them both.

No worries. I've made my mind up now.

I am getting the following:

1 x EVGA GTX 570 SC, Asus Xonar D2X, Logitech Z-5500, 2 x WD Raptor 150GB for RAID0.

Next year, I will get a new motherboard and cpu plus ram. I think my mobo is on its way out anyway, but hoping to hold out until then.
