Newsgroups is a completely different way of downloading. You don't use torrents/p2p or anything, the files you get are held on one or more of several 'hubs/servers'. This means you get pretty much your maximum download speed all the time, ie I get 2400kb/s almost all the time, rather than 100/200kb/s using torrents. Stuff is posted to the servers in the form of 'articles' which you download and extract (typically they'll be a set of rar files). You have to pay to get a good usenet server though, so its not worth doing if your not a heavy downloader really.

You can use many programs, servers, ways of obtaining the nzb. I for example use Giganews server on NewsLeecher software and I get my nzb's from nzbsrus.com. I hate using torrents because it takes weeks to download like a good dvd or game, and you may find it corrupt. with newsgroups the files come in pars or something so they are split into like 5~100MB per file so if anything gets corrupt you can use the repair tool and it will re-download just that file not the whole lot.

I get pretty good speed on torrents. Recently downloaded a game at 5,6GB in 1 day and 2 hours. Didn't mind it cause I spend most of my time at school and sleeping.

My brother used to use this site, I don't know if it was torrents or not. But as he became higher rank at the site, his speed increased or something. Though it sucked because it was only films, and it was updated frequently, removing the old ones.

Sounds a bit like emule ed2k links. The more you share, the faster your download speed.

the torrent site i get my anime from is like that, the more i share back the better my download speeds get, at the min im on a 1.4 ratio with them and always hit my cap when downloading.
