Does one pay customs duties or whatever it's called if you send things within europe?

What is it with all you Scandanavians and customs duty/import taxes etc :P?

I've never had to worry about any of that shit whenever I've bought something :S

I am young, I need to learn...

Just a few things that gets me curious. If I were to buy something big and heavy and expensive from the USA that is a lot more cheap over there for us in Europe, but if you add customs duties, than the price would equal the one currently in my country. And therefore, importing things would be pointless.

But if a guy from UK is selling the same thing, but an used one, half price at that, that makes me wonder if you have to pay customs within Europe. If not, then that item for such a price is one of a kind deal.

If I order something to here (UK) from, for instance, America all I pay is the item cost + shipping. Obviously shipping is pretty expensive as they have to put it in a plane or a ship, but AFAIK I've never had to pay any kind of import/customs tax.

Hopefully it will get better, but atm it's sick thb.
Anything (well excluding some items like books...) that costs over £20 gets an added toll to it... =/
